Relentless involvement in clinical research thereby playing a fundamental role in developing cancer preventatives, treatments and cures for the future. Footprint in the continent which I am very passionate about.

Dr Ntomboxolo Mboyi was born in Bizana a small village in the Eastern Cape (South Africa). With an upbringing deeply rooted in spirituality from her Christian parents, she knew God at a young and that has carried her throughout her life and career. The path to medicine was rocky and full of diversions but she was more than determined to excel against all odds becoming the first black female oncologist in South Africa and the best at what she does.

Dr Mboyi is grateful for the privilege and honor of being an oncologist. For her it is a great responsibility that brings her deep satisfaction and teaches her the virtue of humility. The opportunity and capacity to engage another human being during one of the most vulnerable and scary times in their lives is a unique blessing, and can’t tell how many times it has changed her life.

Being constantly exposed to the fears, anxiety and pain of her patients has led Ntombi to take up yoga, meditation and exercise, which helps her to relax, channel her emotions and regain perspective. She also enjoys spending time with her family, playing golf, reading and travelling. She believes that, in the end, we are our choices and we must build ourselves a good story.

She matriculated at St James High School and went on to study at the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN) Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in microbiology and biochemistry and graduated in 1993. She then furthered her studies at the Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) completing her MBcHB in 1998. Her internship was done at Leratong Hospital in Johannesburg and she was then a community service medical officer at West Rand District Municipality Clinics until 2001. It was during her community service when a colleague strongly recommended radiation oncology as a speciality, which she decided to go ahead with after careful consideration.

In 2001, Dr Mboyi was employed as a registrar in oncology at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg which is the best oncology training center and became a fellow in radiation oncology with the Colleges of Medicine South Africa (CMSA) in 2006. She worked as a consultant at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital until 2008 when she ventured into private practice at Gauteng Oncology (a privately owned oncology centre) where she gained vast experience in prostate brachytherapy. In fact, she has a proven track record of doing over 500 cases of prostate brachytherapy with good results, all of which will be published in the Journal of Contemporary Brachytherapy. Although Dr Mboyi has a special interest in prostate cancer, she also focuses her expertise on breast, gynaecological and colorectal cancer which she finds it particularly fulfilling treating these cancers as they are usually curable.

Dr Mboyi is involved in a number of different cancer awareness campaigns and can often be heard on radio or seen on television representing the cause, and she enjoys giving educational talks at corporate, clinics, churches and townships. She is also involved in various research projects to further advance cancer treatment in South Africa. She is a member of South African Oncology Consortium (SAOC), South African Society of Clinical and Radiation oncology (SASCRO), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and American Brachytherapy Society (ABS).

Currently studying post-graduate degree in Oncological research at Harvard University in the (US) and is also a board member of CanSurvive.

Dr Mboyi went into private practice in 2008 when she was recruited by a group of oncologists called Gauteng Oncology. Over the years she gained vast experience in multiple areas especially Prostate Brachytherapy working with phenomenal colleagues, mentors and leaders in the oncology field.

The immense knowledge gained, resilient attitude, and hardworking nature  laid the groundwork for her to start Dr Mboyi Inc. in 2012. It is her confident leadership and grounded optimism, kind approach and passion to care for people that the practice has grow enormously since inception servicing not just South Africans but the continent as a whole. Her ultimate goal is to cure cancer one patient at a time.

Dr Mboyi Inc prides itself by having a wonderful team of driven individuals that work together diligently and tirelessly building the practice to the success it is.
